Use of a Database in the on-Line Environment of a Large-Scale High-Energy Physics Experiment

Here we report our experience in building a database (DB) inserted in the on-line system of the UA1 experiment at the CERN p anti p Collider. The main requirements that such a DB must fulfill as well as its main possible uses are described, and we explain how this has been handled. The problems encountered, and which should be avoided, are discussed, and some solutions for the future experiments around the next-generation accelerators are proposed. (ERA citation 10:028488)
