Structural Measurements Involved in the Nuclear-Power-Plant Containment-Integrity Program

Sandia is evaluating the degree to which existing finite-element computer codes can predict the structural behavior of containments beyond the elastic range. The current approach to this objective is through the use of physical structural models which are loaded to failure. The computer codes are applied to the model experiment to predict the results throughout all ensuing structural response regimes. A data base is being developed for comparisons using other codes at a later date. (ERA citation 08:026367)
