One objective of this research project was to characterize the active phase of Mo-hydroprocessing catalysts in situ during operation (reaction temperature >500 exp 0 K, pressures in the range 6 to 14 MPa). For this purpose a stainless steel reaction cell was developed and extensively tested. Since the experiments require the use of flammable gases and liquids as well as a highly toxic gas (H sub 2 S) and are carried out at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, a facility not equipped to deal with hazardous experiments, special attention had to be paid to safety aspects of the operation. Details of the cell design and its operation are described in the attached publication, which has been entered individually into EDB and ERA. (ERA citation 10:001718)
