Degradation of B7 Threaded Fasteners in Borated-Water Solutions at Elevated Temperatures

The enclosed test program was initiated principally because of NRC IE bulletin No. 82-02, which reported severe degradation of Grade B7 fasteners in the reactor coolant pressure boundary due to boric acid attack. Two phases of tests were run at 550 exp 0 F in boric acid solution. A third phase test is planned, and the results will be issued as a supplement to this publication. (ERA citation 09:004592)
