Nonlinear sigma Model for the Dodd-Bullough Equation

It is shown that the Dodd-Bullough equation is intimately connected with the nonlinear two-dimensional SL(3, R) - sigma-model, the triplet of massless fields of which takes values on the sphere in the three-dimensional unimodular affine space. This relation is completely similar to the connection of the sine-Gordon equation with the SO(3) - sigma-model describing the three-component field with values on the sphere of the usual three-dimensional Euclidean space.
