Model for Spontaneous Generation of Gauge Structure and Matter

Based on a special topological property of R exp 4 , it is argued that in a 4 + 1 - dimensional pure Einstein theory, the world will tend to find itself in a Kaluza-Klein mode with one compactified spatial dimension populated by singly charged solitons, so that both gauge structure and matter are spontaneously generated.
