摘要

The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) is embarking upon the most aggressive conservation program ever described. One focus of BPA's pioneering efforts is the Hood River Conservation Project, a project which will make the city of Hood River and the surrounding area a model of conservation practices for the nation. The 2-year, $20 million research project aims to discover how much electric energy a community can save under almost ideal conditions. BPA will pay homeowners in the city and county of Hood River for the full cost of tightening houses and installing insulation to very high levels. The weatherization effort will be accompained by aggresive advertising to inform and involve the entire community in the BPA project. These measures will include 16 inches of ceiling insulation, 13 inches of floor insulation, up to the equivalent of 6 inches of wall insulation, triple glazing on windows, caulking, weatherstripping, dehumidifiers and heat exchangers where necessary, switchplate gaskets, electric water heater wraps, water flow regulators, and flow restricting shower heads. The first home to be weatherized and its occupants are described. (ERA citation 09:007763)
