Resonance-Resonance Coupling in Dissociative Electron Attachment

Purpose of this paper is to discuss the effects of resonance-resonance coupling on dissociative electron attachment (DA). It briefly reviews some typical experimental results, and the two alternative theoretical interpretations which have been proposed. It presents the main features of a theory which involves indirect electronic coupling between the resonances and show how it can be applied to the formation of H exp - by electron attachment to HBr. In the case of hydrogen halides (HX), DA provides information about the wavefunctions of the two HX exp - resonances and the extent of spin-orbit mixing between them. (ERA citation 09:000925)
