Analysis of the Impact of a Deformable Missile Model on a Deformable Obstruction.

A formalism based on Riera's model is presented, by means of which impact forces upon a deformable target, i.e. a target which yields during impact, can be calculated. (However, perforation of the target will be excluded.) This method is applied to the crashing of a fast-flying military airplane impacting with various velocities. It is assumed that during impact the target yields up to 0.5 metre. Comparison with other calculations on the basis of rigid targets shows that the prescribed motion of the target only slightly affects the magnitude of the impact force. (ERA citation 10:013151)
