摘要

During severe accidents, both PWR ice beds and BWR suppression pools are intended to operate under conditions where large masses of steam are condensed. There are special conditions where the transporting noncondensible gases and water vapor exist in supersaturated conditions. Under these conditions, aerosol particles can grow significantly and, therefore, exhibit different decontamination characteristics. The usual outcome for the usually predominant dry particles >0.3 mu m is that particle settling and inertial removal mechanisms are greatly enhanced. This paper examines the conditions that lead to particle growth and estimates the changes in particle retention as a result of the growth for both ice beds and suppression pools. The quantitative effects are calculated using computer codes ICEDF for ice beds and SPARC for suppression pools. (ERA citation 10:016301)
