Corrosion in Fractionation Towers. Report for the Technical Data Analysis Program

This report reviews the corrosion experience in fractionation towers at both the Process Development Unit P-99 at Gulf Research and Development Company's Harmarville (Pa.) facility and the Ft. Lewis Pilot Plant at Tacoma, Washington. At both these units, evidence indicates chloride containing feed to the towers as the source of corrosion. The results of desalter tests conducted by Petreco Division of Petrolite Corporation on high chloride containing Ft. Lewis atmospheric tower feed samples are also reported. In addition, features to reduce corrosion that were to be incorporated into the planned SRC-II Demonstration Plant are described.
