摘要

The first experiment in the jointly-sponsored (NRC-KfK) STAR experiment program was completed November 9, 1983. The STAR program investigates the transient relocation of fuel and cladding during the initiation phase of LMFBR hypothetical accidents. The name STAR is an acronym for the Sandia Transient Axial Relocation experiments. The program focuses on the key initiation phase issue of material relocation, since it dominates the reactivity input during the early phases of LOF type LMFBR accidents. The STAR experiment capsule was designed to allow the direct observation of small fuel pin bundles through an in-pile optical system. The motion of fuel and cladding during the simulated LOF are recorded on a high speed 35 mm motion picture camera. (ERA citation 09:026057)
