摘要

Increasing use of arc furnaces connected to a common power distribution system often causes a substantial increase in flicker levels, necessitating the installation of flicker compensators. The paper deals with a practical method for determining the degree of arc disturbance at the point of common coupling as well as a method to determine the size of the compensator required. A particular advantage of this method is that it allows for the easy calculation of the rating of a compensator for an existing system when an additional arc furnace is being considered.
