Methods for Analysing Substitution Experiments in Thermal Reactors

Some of the techniques used to interpret fuel-element substitution experiments in thermal neutron reactors are reviewed and the conditions under which they are most appropriately used are examined. The emphasis is on heavy-water-moderated reactors with application to thorium-plutonium fuels in a uranium drive lattice. Methods are compared for their relative speed and accuracy in obtaining test-region bucklings and spectral interaction effects from experimental data for widely differing lattices.
