Proceedings of the Geoscience Instrumentation Workshop

摘要

A workshop was held to explore the question as to how collaborations between various universities, national laboratories, and companies might help alleviate some of the problems facing the geoscience community by assessing the nature and extent of the so-called instrumentation crisis. Issues of general interest to the geoscience community, issues of special interest to the academic community, and issues of interest to the national laboratories were addressed. The discussions of the several issues are summarized, and recommendations are made concerning many if not all of the issues, particularly concerning field and laboratory instrumentation. Issues include funding, access to facilities, off-the-shelf technology, and lack of well-trained staff. (ERA citation 10:010314)
