Engine Wear and Cold Startability of Methanol Fueled Engines

While alcohol fuels have moved towards commercialization, two problems have not been satisfactorily resolved. These are cold-start, warm-up driveability and corrosion and wear of fuel system and engine parts. In addition, environmental factor assessments must continuously be made if the public is to be assured that the alcohols are more benign than petroleum in terms of environmental, health, and safety factors.
