摘要

The handbook addresses misconceptions about aging, and describes the common reactions that caregivers may experience, including resentment, exhaustion, sadness, frustration, and guilt. Ways to relieve stress, including exercising, getting adequate rest and nutrition, talking, and allowing others to help are recommended. Attention is focused on meeting the human needs of the person receiving care, and on looking out for signs that may indicate the need for a physician's assistance. Suggestions on how to seek the best medical care are supplied, and national support organizations are listed. Finally, ways for the caregiver and the older disabled adult to understand and accept their feelings are explored.
