This thesis describes measurements of proton-proton and proton-antiproton elastic scattering with the scattered particles emerging at small angles in the centre of mass (CM) system. These measurements have been performed at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR). The direct comparison of pp and anti pp scattering in this energy range is of considerable interest. This is because measurements on pp scattering alone, have revealed that in the ISR energy range both elastic- and total pp cross-sections increase with increasing energy. It is the subject of this thesis to check the prediction that the proton-antiproton cross section will do the same. The present experiment measures the angular distribution of pp and anti pp elastic scattering at small angles (typically 1-10 mrad) and at different energies. From these measurements a comparison of the energy behaviour of the pp and anti pp forward nuclear scattering amplitudes is obtained. This behaviour can be described in terms of three parameters: the total cross-section, the ratio of the real-to-imaginary part of the forward nuclear amplitude and a parameter, the slope, characterising the dependence of the process on the squared four-momentum transfer between the incident and the scattered particle.
