Experimental evidence has been obtained to support methanol's low photochemical reactivity when substituted for typical urban hydrocarbons. This evidence supports a previous urban modeling study in which significant ozone reductions were predicted with large scale methanol substitution for gasoline. An improved (urban hydrocarbon) chemical kinetic mechanism has also been partially validated along with methanol's photochemistry. 15 references, 28 figures, 7 tables. (ERA citation 10:022490)
