The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity, and the low temperature specific heat have been measured on single crystals of LaFe sub 4 P sub 12 . The data confirm both the occurrence of bulk superconductivity at 4.1 exp 0 K and the absence of any magnetic ordering. LaFe sub 4 P sub 12 is a relatively weakly coupled superconductor (lambda = 0.45) and has a density of states at the Fermi energy of 0.98 states/eV-atom. The electrical resistivity exhibits metallic behavior and has a residual resistance ratio of approx. 90. The magnetic susceptibility is very weakly temperature dependent, saturating below 50 exp 0 K at a value of 8.0 x 10 exp -4 cm exp 3 /mole. (ERA citation 09:033757)
