Eight intensities of subsoiling were compared to disking on borrow pit reclamation plots amended with 17 mt/ha sewage sludge or inorganic fertilizer (1121 kg/ha) and lime (242 kg/ha). After one year, N and P levels in sludge plots were significantly higher than in fertilizer plots. K was low in all plots. Foliar N was significantly increased in trees on sludge plots, but foliar K was significantly higher in trees on fertilizer plots. Trees on the sludge-amended plots grew an average of 37.3% more in height and 76.5% more in DBH than trees grown in the fertilizer-amended plots. (ERA citation 09:019166)
