摘要

A long-chain fatty acid degrading (beta oxidizing), obligate proton-reducing, acetogenic bacterium strain SD2 of the genus Syntrophomonas has been isolated in coculture with a hydrogen-using bacterium, Desulfovibrio strain G-11. The enzymology of fatty acid degradation is being studied to discover the differences of SD2 from S. wolfei which allow it to degrade long chain fatty acids. A new species, Clostridium pfennigii (V5-2) was isolated from the rumen. A new genus and species, Syntrophococcus sucromutans (S195) is present in relatively high numbers in rumen contents. Another new species is Eubacterium oxidoreducens. (ERA citation 10:021821)
