A search was performed for the associated production of two different Higgs bosons via a virtual Z sup 0 in e exp + e exp - annihilation (e exp + e exp - -> h sub 10 h sub 20 ) using the JADE detector at PETRA. This was motivated by the interpretation of the monojet events observed at the CERN panti p collider as anomalous Z sup 0 decays into two neutral Higgs bosons (h sub 10 and h sub 20 ), where h sub 10 is stable and escapes detection while h sub 20 decays into hadrons. Single- or di-jet events with large momentum imbalance are then expected at PETRA energies. No evidence for such events was found in our data; this excludes h sub 20 masses in the range of 1 to 21 GeV with 95% C.L., if the branching fraction for Z sup 9 -> h sub 10 h sub 20 is larger than one half that for Z sup 0 -> nu sub( mu ) anti nu sub( mu ). The possibility that the monojets could originate from supersymmetric higgsino production from Z sup 0 decay is also examined. (ERA citation 10:045419)
