摘要

Improved trace analysis is sought of porphyrins and monomethylalkanes in complex matrices, organic geochemical energy source materials in particular. Goals are to maximize chemical selectivity, as well as the sample-to-sorbent ratio, particularly in the initial stages. Since these two latter goals tend to be reached one at the expense of the other, an optimization is required. In the work carried out so far the trial and error approach has been adopted with emphasis given to high speed experiments. Rapidly packed short column HPLC has been employed; the approach requires but a few minutes to pack a column or to test a separation. The attempted use of objective reasoning in the past eight months of effort in the two analytical problem areas is summarized.
