The following areas of research are reported: kinetics of the thermolysis of a hydridocyclohexyliridium(III) complex Cp(PMe sub 3 )Ir(Cy)(H) (where Cp = n sup 5 -C sub 5 Me sub 5 and Cy = cyclohexyl) in benzene: the mechanism of thermal C-H insertion/elimination; an equilibrium study of reversible alkane C-H insertion/elimination; the synthesis of (n sup 5 -cyclopentadienyl)-(trimethylphosphine)dihydridoiridium(III) and its use in the preparation of hydridoaryl and hydridoalkyl complexes.
