Typical performance indices used for conventional generating units are modified so that only unavailability due to equipment failures, and not due to battery charging, is considered. It is concluded that battery system reliability is high and should not be a major consideration in the choice of converter configuration, and that battery system cost could be reduced by reducing component redundancy in the balance of plant.
