Accurate Determination of the sup 235 U Isotope Abundance by gamma Spectrometry

The purpose of this manual is to serve as guide in applications of the Certified Reference Material EC-NRM-171/NBS-SRM-969 for accurate U-235 isotope abundance measurements on bulk uranium samples by means of gamma spectrometry. The manual provides a thorough description of this non-destructive assay technique. Crucial measurement parameters affecting the accuracy of the gamma-spectrometric U-235 isotope abundance determination are discussed in detail and, whereever possible, evaluated quantitatively. The correction terms and tolerance limits given refer both to physical and chemical properties of the samples under assay and to relevant parameters of typical measurement systems such as counting geometry, signal processing, data evaluation and calibration.
