Intercomparison of Film Dosemeters in the Nordic Countries

The purpose of the reported intercomparison of film dosemeters was to estimate the accuracy of the personal monitoring systems in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Each of the four countries received ten film badges from the three other countries. The film badges were then irradiated and sent back to the country of origin for development and evaluation. The choice of radiation quality, irradiation geometry and dose was free and remained unknown for the film dosemeter services until the results of the evaluation were sent to all participants. The films were developed by the method used for routine dosimetry. The conclusion of the investigation was that the personal film monitoring as practised in the Nordic countries can be used to measure the dose equivalent for external gamma radiation with the accuracy recommended by ICRP.
