Five Year Research Plan, 1985-1990. Wind Energy Technology: Generating Power from the Wind

The Department of Energy's current view of the research requirements for wind energy technology is presented. The goal of the Federal Wind Energy Program is to conduct research to establish a technology base and to support industry in confirming the viability of wind energy as an energy supply alternative. The federal program plan for achieving the good is outlined, and activities planned for fiscal years 1985 through 1989 are described. The four main features of the strategy are: to identify how improvements in wind technology can be achieved; to provide a framework for research and development activities; to provide a management plan to ensure that progress is attained; and to recognize the critical importance of an effective partnership between government and industry.
