A continuous monitoring method was developed to investigate sup 218 Po neutralization phenomena under various controlled conditions. From the variation of the diffusion coefficient, the neutralization behavior of sup 218 Po ions can be examined. It has been determined that the diffusion coefficient of sup 218 Po increased from 0.035 to 0.071 cm exp 2 /sec as the concentration of the NO sub 2 in N sub 2 increased from 0 to 700 ppb. Also, the neutralization rate was observed to change from 7.88 msec to 2.09 msec with the increasing NO sub 2 concentration. 12 references, 12 figures, 9 tables. (ERA citation 10:014425)
