This report summarizes the results of EPRI Research Project RP1777 Tasks 2, 6, 7, and 9. The major objective of this work was to advance critical technology elements (identified in Task 1, reported in EPRI EM-3161) necessary to improve reliability, reduce heat rate, and lower costs of an advanced multimegawatt fuel processor.nThe major element in this effort was the technology development of a full-scale, single-tube repeating element of an advanced reformer to operate at increased pressure, temperature, and specific fuel flow. Significant effort was directed towards identifying improved ceramic insulation required at the higher reformer operating temperatures. Additional elements included subscale verification of a simplified fuel vaporization concept, subscale verification of hydrodesulfurizer (HDS) catalyst activity and performance, and a study to identify a reformer burner development approach.
