Milwaukee Long Term Care Gerontology Center (Establishment and Organization of the Gerontology Center)

The report discusses the establishment of the Milwaukee Long-Term Care Gerontology Center (MLTCGC) as a public/private consortium of academic institutions and service provider organizations. The organization of the MLTCGC is described, with attention on governance, personnel, and community affiliates. Research activities conducted by the Center are addressed. Some of the major research projects, such as Homesharing, the Community Options Program, the Alzheimer's Disease Program Evaluation, and the Medicare Prospective Payment Project, are analyzed. The Center's education and training activities are examined, and focused primarily on didactic teaching and clinical training for undergraduate and graduate students in medicine, nursing, and social work; and continuing education and training opportunities for practicing professionals. The Center's strategy in service and practice model development is examined. The scope and content of the Center's information dissemination and technical assistance activities are reported.
