Modeling Ion-Focused Transport of Electron Beams with Simple Beam-Envelope Simulations

To resolve the issue of beam losses to the ion focus transport (IFT) pipe walls after injection and capture, an envelope code, SCRAPE, was written. SCRAPE is based on the envelope equation for the rms radius of an axisymmetric beam during self-similar expansion or contraction. The analytic expressions and physical models used in SCRAPE are presented, and some SCRAPE simulations are compared with experimental results. (ERA citation 11:041372)
