Natural Convection in a Closed Cavity with Variable Heating of the Floor and One Vertical Wall. FY 1984 Report

The objective was to determine the effect of combined heating of the floor and wall upon thermal stratification in a closed cavity with one cooled wall. The experiments were conducted in a 1/4-scale, water-filled test cell. The experiments included flow visualization studies, temperature measurements, and heat transfer measurements. The experiments were conducted with variable levels of floor and wall heating and included the limits of pure floor heating and pure wall heating. The results of this research are presented in terms of correlations that can be easily incorporated into building energy simulation programs. (ERA citation 11:035792)
