Observation of the Decays tau Yields eta X, tau Yields omega X

In a study of tau lepton decay using the High Resolution Spectrometer at the PEP storage ring, the inclusive production of the rho, omega , and eta mesons has been observed. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 300 pb sup -1 and the storage ring was operated at sqrt s = 29 GeV. The inclusive branching ratio for tau sup + -> pi sup + eta X is (8 +- 4)%. This result resolves the current discrepancy between the one-prong topological branching ratio and the sum of the individual one-prong modes. (ERA citation 12:007653)
