Computerized Search and Sort System for Binary Phase Diagram Features

A computerized search and sort program has been devised to search available binary phase diagram data for prescribed features of interest. Data from the compilations of Hansen, Elliott, Shunk, and Moffatt are summarized in a computerized format for easy retrieval. The program is written in the BASIC language for the IBM PC and compatibles. The database contains information on over 2410 binary systems between 75 elements. A subsequent sort program sorts the information first by diagram type and then alphabetically within each type. The program is useful for conducting searches of binary phase diagram data for the solution of engineering problems involving binary phase diagrams. Searches can be conducted according to diagram features such as type of diagram, number of eutectics, composition or temperature of the lowest melting eutectic, intermediate phases, and the composition or temperature of the maximum amount of terminal solid solubility. A description of the program is presented and examples of its application are discussed. The types of data in the database are described. (ERA citation 13:015080)
