摘要

2- phenoxyethanol was tested for mutagenicity in Chinese hamster ovary cells, both in the presence and absence of Aroclor-induced rat liver S-9 metabolic activation. Based on preliminary determinations of cytotoxicity, the compound was tested without activation at concentrations of 0, 2500, 3000, 3250, 3375, and 3500 ug/ml culture medium, and with activation, at 0, 2000, 2500, 3000, 3250, and 3500 ug/ml culture medium. The treatment did not increase the frequency of mutations at the HGPRT locus, indicating that the test compound was not mutagenic in CHO cells under the conditions of this assay. Positive control treatment (621 ug/ml ethyl methanesulfonate without activation and 4.03 ug/ml 20-methylcholanthrene with activation) induced the expected increase in mutation frequencies.
