Gridded bunchers operating at low frequency, are limited in the acceptable particle velocity by the non-bunching effect of the R.F. fields between the external grounded surface and the grids. The three-frequency gridded buncher, based on 9.375 MHz, at Canberra, was provided with 24 cm long carbon coated teflon sleeves to extend the far field regions. The sleeves act as distributed resistors, smoothly grading the far field region over a distance of 30 cm. The bunching efficiency is constant at 65% for beams which travel up to 17 cm in one 9.375 MHz cycle. (Atomindex citation 20:046347)
