Fabrication of Multiple-Layer Large Ice Block

An automated process to fabricate large ice blocks was developed. One-dimensional heat transfer considerations, the system operating equipment, and the large ice block characteristics are discussed. Ice blocks up to 9 ft thick and weighing over 30,000 lb have been fabricated with this technique in less than 10 days. (ERA citation 12:020663)
