Transfer of Volatile Species Between Gaseous and Liquid Phases with Particular Reference to Inorganic and Organic Iodine in AGR and Magnox Spent Fuel Transport Flasks

The transfer of volatile species between volumes of water and adjacent gaseous atmospheres is an important step in the assessment of the radiological consequences of hypothetical accidents involving fuel transport flasks. This report develops a general formulation for interfacial transfer of volatile species which is then applied to the case of iodine in both Magnox and AGR fuel transport flasks using a mass transfer approach.
