The effect of irradiation by high intensity pulsed ultrasonic field on the electrical double layer created when zinc, cadmium, lead, copper, silver, nickel, platinum, tin and iron are placed in distilled water is studied by measuring the difference in potential between metal electrodes and the intensity of the sonoluminescence. The threshold transducer voltages for the emission of light are also measured. The potential difference variation can reveal the different stages of the cavitation zone. A good correlation between the measured parameters, electrochemical potential, crystal structure and the melting point of the metals is found. (author). 9 refs, 1 fig., 2 tabs.
