In this note, a summary of data acquisition systems is presented for the High Energy Physics collider facilities. Particular emphasis is made on the data acquisition stages and trigger rates. The suitability of these systems for a relativistic heavy ion collider calorimeter detector with ports is then discussed. 6 refs., 8 figs., 1 tab. (ERA citation 13:006364)
