The Kondo properties of Yb dilute alloys and intermetallics have been investigated using Moessbauer spectroscopy on /sup 170/Yb. In the dilute alloys AuYb and LaBe/sub 13/Yb, the Kondo logarithmic anomaly of the impurity relaxation rate has been detected, and in the concentrated Yb compounds YbBe/sub 13/, YbP and YbAs, and YbCuAl, the manifestations of the interplay between the Kondo effect and the magnetic ordering due to the RKKY interaction have been characterized.
