Routine monitoring and sampling for radiation, radioactive materials, and chemical substances on and off the ORR are used to document compliance with appropriate standards, identify trends, provide information for the public, and contribute to general environmental knowledge. The surveillance program assists in fulfilling the DOE policy of protecting the public, employees, and the environment from harm that could be caused by its activities and reducing negative environmental impact to the greatest degree practicable. This document provides information on the environment and presents calculations of doses to the public.
