Standards and Conventions for the TOPS (Transportation Operational Personal Property Standard System) User Interface

The Transportation Operational Personal Property Standard System (TOPS) is an automated information management system to help administer the personal property transportation program for the Department of Defense. Prototype testing at four field sites is planned for the late summer of 1988. These standards are written to ensure that the user interface for TOPS is consistent among modules, easy for the user to understand, and efficient to use. The standards provide guidance to TOPS analysts in the design of screens, the programming of function keys, and the implementation of user instructions, error messages, and help files. In cases where flexibility is more important than consistency, optional conventions are suggested. 14 refs., 12 figs., 2 tabs. (ERA citation 13:056004)
