摘要

This study seeks to elucidate the effects of glass grain boundary phases on grain growth in yttria-stabilized ZrO sub 2 ceramics. ZrO sub 2 with 0 to 8 mol% Y sub 2 O sub 3 were mixed with 5 wt % borosilicate glass. It was found that the glass prevented the formation of facetted zirconia grains, and that the dependence of grain size in the yttrium composition remained unchanged. EDS suggested that the yttria partitioning in the 3 mol% specimen also plays an important role in controlling grain growth. 5 refs., 4 figs. (ERA citation 13:049103)
