The prime goal in string physics today is to discover the underlying symmetries and derive the theory from first principles. Here the author reports on recent work by J. Greensite and the author on how to make bosonic string field theory invariant under another enormous symmetry, namely loop-dependent general coordinate transformations. 8 refs.
