The Laser-Injected Trace Elements (LITE = KZ3) System or as popularly known, the Laser Blow-off System, authorized by the Technical Project Board in October 1986, started operating in June 1988. As it relies for data acquisition and analysis on several other JET diagnostics, it is appropriate to provide a guide to it from the technical point of view, to indicate its potential by collating data from analogous systems on other tokamaks and to report on its first results.
