This research program has involved mechanistic studies of new chemical transformations of organic molecules at native and chemically modified surfaces. New electrode materials have been prepared by adsorption, covalent attachment, polymerization, and mulling with electroactive and with light-sensitive materials. Physical characterization of these designed surfaces have been studied by rapid kinetic methods. Catalytic organic reactions initiated by electron exchange on these three-dimensional arrays have been sought, and mechanistic studies of prime candidiates for efficient electrocatalysis. 9 figs.
