Measurement of localized corrosion using current density mapping.

The techniques for measuring distributions of currents over electrode surfaces have been reviewed. Simulation of current distributions in solutions, based on the substituting of elemental areas by point current sources are presented. Examples of the application of the technique using vibrating probe electrodes to study localized corrosion are discussed. The examples are stress corrosion cracking of sensitized stainless steels and inhibitor action during pitting of aluminum. 18 refs., 5 figs.
